Alphabet Memory – Handmade Fun For The Whole Family

Nikki · August 9, 2011 · 6 Comments

As you know, the kiddos and I are gearing up for a week of fun at the beach, and as many moms out there know, these days leading up to that fun can be a little stressful.  Packing, food shopping, baking a few batches of goodies to snack on…I’m earning every minute of this vacation!  This fun project has kept my little guy busy the past two days, punching away, and will keep him busy next week, when we are on the road without our house full of toys and games that usually keep him occupied.

This project is super easy, and I’m so proud of the fact that most (everything except for the adorable little bee stickers!) came from my stash!  And, to make things even easier for you, I’ve put together a PDF that you can download and print for your alphabet!

Handmade Memory Alphabet Game Letters PDF

Have fun making these with your little ones, have a great time playing Alphabet Memory over and over again with them, and enjoy making memories that you all will cherish forever!

Enjoy,

Nikki, In Stitches

Materials:

3 pieces of heavy weight card stock for the top side of your playing pieces

3 pieces of heavy weight card stock for the bottom side of your playing pieces

3 pieces of yellow cardstock

4 pieces of 8 1/2″ x 11″ kraft paper

2 1/2″ scallop punch

1 1/2″ circle punch **

1 1/4″ circle punch **

Brown ink pad

52+ bee stickers (I had a few extra, so I put some beside a few of the letters!)

Adhesive Roller

** You may find it less exepnsive in the long run to invest in a circle cutter.  I have one from Martha that I love.  Just keep in mind, that makes this project a little less kid friendly!

Directions:

1.  Punch 52 scallops out of each of your heavy weight cardstocks, for a total of 104 scallops.  Using your adhesive roller, adhere one of each together, to create a two sided base for your playing pieces.  On the top side, place a bee sticker right in the middle!

2.  Punch out 52 1 1/2″ yellow circles.  Roll each of them in brown ink to edge them.  Adhere them to the center of the bottom side of each playing piece.

3.  Print out 2 copies of the Alphabet Memory Letters PDF.  Cut along the dotted lines, and using your 1 1/4″ punch, punch out each letter.  Again, edge them with brown ink, and adhere them to the center of the yellow circles on the bottom side of your playing pieces.

4.  If you have a few extra bee stickers, adhere them to a few of the playing pieces, beside the letters.  (I used mine to kind of help differentiate between “M” and “W”!)

5.  Find a nice, open space on the floor, and sit down with your little ones for some fun!

What a great way to use extras you may have, too, for something good and education (and, hey, super cute!)

    Thanks for the idea!

On My Work Table Today

I’ve completely lost myself in my current design. I don’t mean like lost my sense of style, or lost my motivation, or even lost track of what direction I wanted to take this piece. I mean like I literally lost myself. I’ve been in my studio for hours on end, draping, drafting, and editing on repeat. I am a complete mess, in every sense of the word. My studio is covered in discarded … [Read More...] about Lost In Design…And Loving It
