Almost immediately after the holiday, my inbox started filling up with emails asking for help getting started with the Silhouette CAMEO. A few of you actually admitted to getting your cutting system months ago, but still not taking it out of the box because you didn’t even know where to begin. Whether it was how to use the software, or what supplies should be on your “must-buy” list, it seemed like a lot of you were excited to see where your CAMEO could take you, but not sure how to get going in that direction.
So, before second semester kicks off in February, I’m going to do an “Intro to Your CAMEO” class Tuesday, January 22nd, at 8pm EST.
Added Later: Did you miss class? No worries! You can enroll in my online Silhouette Studio courses at any time here!
I will start class with the basics of designing in the Silhouette software. We’ll create the two color phone decal shown here. I’ll show you how easy it is to create intricate designs using some of the software’s replicate and mirror features. I’ll also share a few tricks for transferring your designs to whatever surfaces you’d like. We’ll review some tips for using the CAMEO’s more advanced features, like the print and cut options. (This is one of my favorite tools to use, but it can be tricky when you get started!) and the trace option, which allows you to easily edit free designs you find online. I’ll end with my list of favorite supplies and what I use them for. After that, I’ll open the floor to all of you. Feel free to ask any questions you have, again whether it be about the software or the actual supplies you can use with the system.
You can register for class by clicking here!
I’ve been crafting with my CAMEO for months, and have created more with it than I ever thought I would. My goal for this class is to jumpstart your experience with the CAMEO and shave weeks off of the software learning curve. (Yes, there is a learning curve. I dove into the software with both feet and learned the hard way, over the course of a few months, and by lots of trial and some error. This class will help you avoid that, and get right to the fun!) Take a look at the bottom of this post to see just a few of the many projects I’ve made with my CAMEO. You’ll quickly see that your cutting system can take you way beyond just paper and scrapbooking!
And as always, if you can’t make class live or need to review any segments for clarification, the class will be immediately available for replay. Students can come back again and again, plus there is a comment section on the class page, where you can continue to ask for help as you experiment with all of the crafty fun you can have with your CAMEO!
I hope to see many of you there!
Nikki, In Stitches
Hey Nikki, how do I access the re-play of the cameo class that I took last night! Loved the class, thanks!
Hi Bonnie!
Just go to the class page! The Spreecast box will be there and click the arrow to start playing the video. You can fast forward to whichever parts you’d like to watch again!

hi there im more a hands on person do you know anywhere in sydney where they have classes to teach you how to use the cameo cheers Lee-Ann
Lee-Ann,
I’m not familiar with classes overseas, but here in the US, some scrapbooking stores and paper stores have started having classes based around the Silhouette. Some allow you to bring your machine and create as a class, some are more of a demo-type class. I would start looking there. I dream of one day hosting a multi-day course where all of you can come and craft alongside me with your Silhouettes, but that’s down the road a bit!
Please let me know when you have a multi-day course. Where are you located? I have just retired and now have time to really learn to use my Silhouette. I have been paying for your classes for months, but haven’t had time to participate.
How and when do you get the video/class after you’ve purchased it?
Arika!

Hello, i love your Give Thanks project, and I am trying to do something similar but I can’t get big fonts to cut on my Cameo. Do you have any ideas to fix my problem?
Maria, I cut this with my 12″ x 24″ mat. If you don’t have one that big, try splitting it into pieces. For example, do the “G” from Give, then the rest of the word, “ive” separately.
Let me know how it goes!
I would love to pay someone to come to my home in Weston, Florida for a Silhouette Tutoring session. Please let me know if you or someone you know may be interested.
I would be interested in an evening, or weekend – 3-4 hour session.
Rene!
Stay tuned!
Weekend retreats are in the works for 2015!!
I am very interested in the weekend retreats. I live in the St. Louis, Mo. Would love a listing of all locations.
Working out the details, Ann. Stay tuned!
I replied to a post where you mentioned the multi-day course, before I realized this reply area was at the bottom of the screen. Just wanted to be sure you let me know when you plan a class.

Hi Darlene!
I absolutely will. I am just outside Philly, but am not against traveling. If the first one here close to me is a hit, I may take this show on the road!
Stay tuned!
I am looking for someone local to do silhousettes of my Grandchildren. Having a very hard time locating anyone. Can you please help me?
Carolyn,
I don’t know any local vendors but I believe there are a few shops on Easy that will take a picture you send them and convert it to a Silhouette. Try taking a look there!
will there be anymore classes? I just got a cameo silhouette and I am lost! I really want to use this and I have about 22 projects that I want to do but apparently I am not as intelligent about this as I hoped I would be-! I live in marietta ga (metro atlanta) and if you know of any classes near me- I would be grateful for some instructions- several people I have spoke to about it says “forget it” it is too hard and that is discouraging.
Linda,

Do you have any classes for the curio?? I am completely lost. Bought it four months ago.
Hi Vivian,
The Curio uses the same software as the CAMEO, the only difference is the size you are able to cut. This is the class I currently have open for enrollment: http://www.nikkiinstitchescraftacademy.com/classes/ You should be fine to complete all of these projects with your machine!
hi im trying to get in the class also but cant thanks Kim
Hi Kim!
My newest course, STUDIO Foundations, is available here: http://www.nikkiinstitchescraftacademy.com/classes/
