Scratch that…
I’m in paper piecing HELL!
Three years ago (yes, you read that correctly…three years ago) I started Judy Niemeyer’s 4th of July quilt for my sister-in-law. She was just finishing up her first year in college, and I thought it was perfect for her. It wasn’t a “traditional” looking quilt, it had a modern vibe, and I was excited to try paper piecing. I bought a beginner’s book at my local craft store to help me get started and played around a bit. I was hooked!
Three years later….
It’s about 2/3 finished…if I’m lucky. It’s kind of just become my back burner quilt that I use to fill space between projects. Unfortunately, the paper piecing process just doesn’t seem to be my thing. Don’t get me wrong, this is one my favorite quilts I’ve ever made. I love how it looks and I love how easy it is to get beautifully accurate points, curves and blocks. It just seems like this thing will never be finished! It’s hard for me to get motivated when I work on it for hours and it doesn’t seem like I’ve made a dent in the pile of papers still left to be sewn!
And are you ready for the kicker?
I can’t find the instructions.
This quilt has been on hold for such a long time, and I guess in my move across the country, I lost the instructions. Luckily, I sorted and cut my fabrics when I started this project to ensure I had enough lights, darks, etc. Now, if I could only figure out the placement….
Enjoy,
Nikki, In Stitches
Hi Nikki,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the wonderful complements. How did you find me? (Just curious).
I’m forwarding your comment on to The Olde World Quilt Shoppe so they can see how blogging brings them business. Wasn’t that block of the month wonderful? Wait until you see it in person. So much more beautiful than the pictures.
By the way, I have made Judy N’s 4th of July. I would be happy to copy the instuctions and send them on to you so you can finish. Go to my e-mail and send me your current address.
Judy was just here in St. George last week teaching 3 days worth of classes. I was in Phoenix at the time so I couldn’t attend. My friends (who are very experienced quilters) said she is one of the best teachers they have ever experienced.
