I’m not sure how you either accidentally or maybe purposely ended up at Nikki, In Stitches, but regardless, I am so happy to see you here! This is my first blog, first ever attempt at branching out of my own little craft world, and if anyone has found me already…WOW! I have been making crafts and coming up with creative ideas for myself and others for a lifetime, but really just in the last few years have come into my own and found a style that works for me and apparently others, too. You name it, I have probably tried it, but my best work comes out of, but is not limited to, the quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and paper arts categories (not necessarily in that order).
What is the inspiration behind Nikki, In Stitches? I enjoy putting fresh twists on traditional crafts. I am most comfortable behind the wheel of a sewing machine. I’d like to think that I have the skill of someone who’s been sewing / crafting for years, and the style of the hip, young girl I am! I’d like to not only share some of my skills, but also learn from other crafters who share a similar passion to mine of creating, shall we say, “contemporary crafts.” When searching online for inspiration, I often find multiple sites with potholders, tea cozies, and toilet paper roll covers. While I do appreciate all crafters and their desired mediums, that’s just not my style. I’d like this blog to stand out from others, not because I’m not interested in traditional style crafts, but because I’m excited to see where my traditional sewing machine can take me.
My hope is that this blog will turn into a forum where people get advice when they are delving into a new medium, where we offer suggestions, tips and warnings, where we retell horror stories of craft adventures gone wrong, where we can have show-and-tell and get honest, constructive feedback (both positive and negative), and who knows where we go from there? I’d like to put in my two cents here and there, but sometimes just connect you to the resources you’re looking for. When you try something new, I’ll do it, too, and we’ll both learn something along the way. When I’m not taking the lead for my posts from your suggestions or questions, I’ll throw my own ideas out there. I’ll put up some of my projects for inspiration, and, hopefully, you’ll do the same.
I hope this already has some of you thinking of projects to share or suggestions for posts.
I sincerely hope I can take my knowledge of crafting and my passion for teaching, and inspire and motivate people to try new things, sharpen their skills, and, along the way, make great friends.
I am headed out to my yarn shop to get supplies for the first project I plan to post. I look forward to hearing from all of you, thanks for stopping by, and I can’t wait to see you back here soon!
Nikki, In Stitches
