The points of this Sawtooth Patchwork block may be intimidating, but with an accurate 1/4″ seam, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to make. If you need a few tips on achieving precise seams, please see my previous post titled Cheap Trick. I like this block because judging from the finished piece you would think there is intricate seaming on the bias, but there are a few tricks along the way that make it actually very simple.
Enjoy!

1. Draw a diagonal line on the back of each Green Floral 4 7/8″ square from corner to corner. With right sides together, place 1 Green Floral square on top of 1 Green / Pink Print square. Stitch 1/4″ on each side of the drawn line. Cut each square into two triangles by cutting on the diagonal drawn line, to make 4 Triangle Units. Press to the Green Floral fabric.
2. Draw a diagonal line on the back of each Pink / Brown Floral 2 1/2″ square from corner to corner. With right sides together, align 1 Pink / Brown Floral square in the corner of a Brown Dots square. Stitch on the drawn line. Cut away excess fabric by cutting 1/4″ out from the stitching line. Press to the Floral fabric.
3. Sew another Pink / Brown Floral square in the opposite corner of the Brown Dots square. Trim and press as in Step 2.
4. Sew Pink / Brown Floral squares in the two remaining corners of the Brown Dots square. Trim and press as in Step 2, to complete Unit A. Make 4 Unit A’s.
5. Repeat Steps 2, 3 and 4 to make Unit B using 4 Green Floral 2 1/2″ squares and the remaining Brown Dots square.
6. Sew a Triangle Unit to each side of Unit A. Press to the Triangle Units. Repeat this with the other two remaining Triangle Units.
