I just wanted to send out one last thank you to everyone that has supported my mitten drive this year, either by donating sweaters or by helping spread the word. Earlier this week, my husband and son delivered the mittens to Columbus House, while I stayed home with my new little one. I was sad that I didn’t get to deliver them in person and meet everyone I have been in contact with face to face, but hopefully I will be back later this month with another basket. This first batch will be bundled with scarves, hats and sweat suits, and given out in gift bags to all those who need them. Of course, keep your sweaters coming! If they aren’t made into mittens and delivered by Christmas, I will certainly make sure they find a home when winter comes around again next year.
And once again, to all of that helped with this huge project, I am humbled by how generous all of you were and continue to be. It has been my pleasure to pass along your goodwill, and I look forward to making next year’s drive even more successful. More importantly, the men and women that will now feel the warmth of our mittens also thank you. I pass along these sentiments from the staff at Columbus House:
“As you can imagine, it’s a tough time for our clients—not only is it cold, but they are usually separated from their families during what is one of the most family-oriented times of the year. If ever they’re reminded of what a tough situation they’re in, it’s now. So thoughtful, handmade donations like yours remind the people we serve that they’re supported. That kind of reminder of hope is the best thing anyone can give.”
