Rosebud: The 9th and FINAL Block!

Nikki · May 6, 2009 · 1 Comment

rosebud-block-9This Rosebud block turned out much cuter than I thought it would.  I was not a fan of the pink and green floral fabric.  I’m pretty sure I’ve seen sheets with that same print…probably at a shore house I stayed in when I was younger.  Either that, or maybe it’s the same print as the housecoat (yes, I said it, housecoat) that my grandmother used to wear.  (No offense, Annie.)  I was pleasantly surprised by the finished piece though.  I guess maybe that print is not as , shall I say, “bold”, when used in small doses.  Anyway, this block is much easier than I thought it would be, too.  It goes together very fast.  Along the way, there are a lot of exposed bias edges, so just be careful when handling and pressing your pieces that they don’t get distorted.  Next week we will start to cover sashing and borders, quilting and binding.  And then we will FINALLY have a completed quilt!

Enjoy,

Nikki, In Stitches

Green / Pink Floral:

  • Cut 4 squares 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”
  • Cut 2 squares 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”. Cut squares once diagonally to make 4 small triangles.

Pink Print:

  • Cut 4 squares 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”

Pink Floral:

  • Cut 2 squares 4 7/8” x 4 7/8”. Cut squares once diagonally to make 4 medium triangles.

Green Tonal:

  • Cut 2 rectangles 6 7/8” x 6 7/8”. Cut squares once diagonally to make 4 large triangles.

rosebud-step-11. Draw a diagonal line on the back of each Green / Pink Floral 2 7/8” square from corner to corner. With right sides together, place 1 Green / Pink Floral square on top of 1 Pink Print 2 7/8” square. Stitch 1/4” on each side of the drawn line. Cut the square into two triangles by cutting on the diagonally drawn line. Press to the Pink Print fabric to complete a Triangle Unit. Make 8 Triangle Units.

rosebud-step-22. Sew two Triangle Units and one Green / Pink Floral triangle together, using the picture provided for fabric placement.

rosebud-step-33. Sew a Pink Floral triangle onto this same piece to complete Unit A. Press to the Pink Floral triangle. Make 4 Unit A’s.

rosebud-step-44. Sew a Unit A and a Green Tonal triangle together to compete Unit B. Press to the Green Tonal triangle. Make 4 Unit B’s.

5. Sew two Unit B’s together. Sew the remaining two Unit B’s together. Sew these two pieces together to complete the pinwheel, and the block.

On My Work Table Today

I’ve completely lost myself in my current design. I don’t mean like lost my sense of style, or lost my motivation, or even lost track of what direction I wanted to take this piece. I mean like I literally lost myself. I’ve been in my studio for hours on end, draping, drafting, and editing on repeat. I am a complete mess, in every sense of the word. My studio is covered in discarded … [Read More...] about Lost In Design…And Loving It
